A Not So Successful SEO Story

Not every SEO story is a success.

When there are shortcuts taken on any of the above, the success might not be as satisfactory as you had hoped for.  Because of the stories like the one you will read here, Web Submission Services has become much more selective of the web sites that we accept for services.  Based on our consultations, if we do not feel sure that there will not be any major issues with any of the contributing factors, we will not accept a web site for services.

A Web Site Promoting Business Promotional Items...

Brief History...

• The company wanted #1 rankings under 8 extremely competitive keywords.

• The company wanted quick results.

• The company had a very limited marketing budget.

• The web site contains only 3 short pages.

• The web site has many design issues that are not compatible with search engines.

• The company was unwilling to make any changes -- at all.

• The company was very demanding.

• The web design company was unwilling to listen.

After much deliberation and detailed explanation to the company of what might NOT happen, WSS decides to give it a shot.

What Happened Next...

• 14 Days After Submission
  The company becomes a bit worried as to why they are not in #1 positions.  It is stressed to them (again) that the process can take at least 3 months to see results and (again) we are concerned that it may not happen at all because so many contributing factors to success have not taken place.

• 30 Days After Submission
  The company is demanding to know why their web site is not showing up with top rankings.  We (again) explain everything to them.

• 45 Days After Submission
  The company is now extremely agitated that there web site is not gaining strength in the search engines.

• 90 Days After Submission
  They finally took a break for awhile and waited another 45 days to let us know that they are extremely unsatisfied with the rankings they have sustained after this three month period and are discontinuing our services and will be working with another SEO company.

Results After 3 Months...

• One #1 Ranking

• One Top 5 Ranking

• Two Top 10 Rankings

• Ten Top 20 Rankings

• Seventeen Top 30 Rankings

The Thoughts Of Our SEO Professionals...

Based on what we initially had to work with, we felt that the site did quite well.  We did the best that we possibly could without making any visible changes to the web site at all and without using any spam techniques.  The two phrases that did generate top 10 rankings were phrases that would generate a small amount of sales minded traffic to their web site which should have resulted in enough sales to cover the small investment they paid for optimization services.

Where Are They Now?

From what we have heard, a new SEO Company has taken over the project.  From closely reviewing the site, we can see that some methods of search engine spam have been incorporated but has not yet been penalized or banned from any search engines that we can tell.  The site no longer has any top ten rankings, 4 top 20 rankings and thirteen top 30 rankings.  We have not had any correspondence with the company since they have terminated our services.
